‘Sticky shoes, Sticky shoes, always make me smile!’ Well, of course they do. But we bet you haven’t heard the same for stinky shoes, have you?

Smelly, stinky shoes are simply revolting and nobody should ever be subjected to the torture of being around them, let alone wearing them.

We know what you are thinking. What could you possibly do to get rid of the smell of your well-worn kicks or those dress shoes that you have been using probably for too long? Although, most people use scents and perfumes to get rid of the unbearable odor but there’s only so much a perfume can do.

There is also a popular misconception that if you wash your feet thoroughly, wear neat socks and spray your feet with a good scent, your shoes won’t smell. Not true. The reason your shoes smell is bacteria infestation in the inner and outer lining of the shoe. Deodorizer is a good solution for this problem.

The way a deodorizer works is, instead of making your shoe smell better, it absorbs the moisture and odors and helps prevent bacteria from growing. And what’s even better, you can make one right at home with minimum effort.

Here’s a super easy way you can make your shoe smell relief:

Things you need:

  • Essential Oils (any particular fragrance that you love)
  • Baking Soda
  • Coffee Filters
  • Twine
  • Small Bowl
  • Paint (Optional)

Things you do:

Take 1/4th cup of baking soda and mix 5-6 drops of essential oil in it properly. Now take a small bowl and place a coffee filter on it. Pour the baking soda mixture (about half a spoon) on the filter and spread it evenly. Gather edges of the filter paper closely to avoid the mix from spilling out. Centre the powder on the paper and wrap in another filter paper for security. Tie it with a small piece of twine firmly.

Now you can use some watercolors to paint the edges of your packet of deodorizer and give it a happy look. If you have any doubts regarding the process, you can watch the full tutorial right here.

And ta-da! Your very own homegrown deodorizer is ready. All you need to do now is to place it in your shoes and remove it when you need to wear them and replace it back again. And don’t forget to enjoy the happy smell.
