Metro Tips: Hacks to Shine your Dress Shoes – Metro Shoes

You’ve followed the guidelines, you’ve visited Metroshoes.net and picked out the dress shoe that fits the bill perfectly. Then you’ve picked the correct outfit and styled yourself to the T. You’ve had a great night, everyone’s complimented you on your impeccable dressing taste and you’ve floated home on Cloud No.9. You’ve taken off your shoes, changed into bedclothes and fallen asleep. Next morning, you wake up in a good mood, still high from all the compliments you’ve received, only to be shaken into reality at the sight of your beloved dress shoes. They’re scuffed and dirty and have lost their luster. After a brief moment of nostalgia, cue sequences from date nights and office affairs, you’re now in a state of panic. How are you going to restore that shine? How are you going to bring that spark back?

Don’t worry, we’ve got you. Metro Shoes presents to you, what should become your holy grail, when it comes to shoe shining.

Step 1: Place a towel/newspapers on your workstation, i.e., where’d you like to be cleaning. For all those who have cleaned their shoes before, you’ll come to find that shoe polish has the ability to get everywhere. So save yourself the extra job of cleaning up.

Step 2: Start by dusting off the dirt off your shoes with a horsehair shoe shine brush. You could use a damp rag, but you won’t get the “cobbler” style of a cleaning experience. This step is crucial because you don’t want a film of dirt on your shoes, before you begin to shine them.

Step 3: The next step is the application of the shoe polish to your shoes.  Use your shoe polish brush or applicator to do this and apply it all over the shoe. Ensure you get as close to the seam as possible. Make sure the colour of the shoe matches as closely as possible to your polish. Leave the polish on for at least 15 minutes and let it dry.

Step 4: Now comes the hard part, the piece de resistance, if you will. All your years of weight lifting will come to fruition, as you put in the elbow grease that is required to buff out the polish. Use your horsehair applicator brush to ensure no excess polish is left over and it forms a thin film on the shoe. Pay extra attention to the toe and heel, and this will require more TLC (tender love and care), than the rest of the shoe. Apply more polish, and keep buffinf it out in circular motions, until you’re happy with the results. But make sure you wipe off the excess before applying a new layer, to avoid a lumpy looking shoe.

Step 5: Finish with this Luxe Crème that will push the shine to the next level. Leave it on for a couple of minutes and buff it out. Think of it as a moisturizer for your shoe, because after all, leather too is skin.
